Hospital Birthing & Advocacy

September 19, 2023

Hospitals are the most common birth location in the US. Although birthing is a normal physiological event, when birthing in a hospital setting, often times technology is considered more important than the birthing person and “managing” labor is more important than labor support. For these reasons, birthing in a hospital landscape calls for strong advocacy skills from the birthing family.

Designed to supplement and complement our childbirth education offerings, this 90-min class helps the pregnant person get a better understanding of their rights and options of care while uplifting the birth partner’s sense of confidence in their advocacy role.

Topics include:

  • Hospital birthing culture
  • Advocacy in birth
  • Three “knows” of self-advocacy
  • Informed consent & informed refusal
  • Important questions to ask your care provider

Class is a mix of lecture, role play, and discussion.

Packed with lots of insightful information and practical tips, this 90-min class (valued at $125) is offered at no cost.

A suggested donation between $25-$125 to the Bring The Womb Bus to The Bronx fundraiser is appreciated (www.givebutter.com/birthingplacebx)
